This morning, I received the link to a sermon of one of my clients preaching at a church near me with a comment on how good the teaching was.
This made me start thinking about my client and all I have seen “firsthand” while working for his ministry as a communications contractor. The more I thought about all I have seen, heard, witnessed, and experienced, the more astounded I became at how much God can do with one individual when that person lets go of all limitations and allows God to truly be all He can be in our lives.
In just 20 years, God took this man from an on the road preacher, visiting small mountain towns and hardly bringing in enough money to pay the bills, to a globally known teacher who gives away millions of dollars every year.
How? The man stopped placing limitations on the Lord.
I wonder where we, you and I and everyone else who truly loves the Father, would be if we took off every barrier, every restriction, and every constraint and just let God be GOD over every aspect of our lives: physical, emotional, mental, financial, spiritual.
Regardless of if we want to believe it or not, I have seen the favor and power that flows over a person’s life when that person releases every worldly limitation and simply lets the Lord do what He desires to do.
Where would we be if we took the limitations away?
Abraham took limitations off the Lord, he became a father to many nations.
Moses took limitations off the Lord, he led Israel out of slavery.
Esther took limitations off the Lord, she saved the entire Jewish population.
David took limitations off the Lord, he defeated Goliath and became a king after Gods own heart.
Lydia took limitations off the Lord, she was the first Christian convert in all of Europe.
Peter took limitations off the Lord, he walked on water.
Over and over again, the bible shows us incredible accounts of individuals changing the world by simply taking restrictions off of the Lord. To think we could do the same is actually quite intimidating, particularly because every single individual I mentioned was flawed, just like you and me.
The only thing that made the above people so special, and others alive today spreading God’s love far and deep, was their willingness to trust the Lord to be all He promised He would be and to take them to places only He could lead.
I guess this is just a time of self-reflection as I ask myself if I have limited God in any way. If so, what will it take for me to stop confining Him, to push the world so far away that anything and everything truly becomes possible?
I desire to impact the world just like my client and all the individual testimonies we know from the Word, but I will only we able to do that if I stop placing God in a box.
What will happen when I release Him from the cage I unknowingly have Him in and just let Him do whatever He desires to do?
The thought, I must admit, is truly overwhelming.
“The heavens, even the highest heaven, cannot contain you.”
