Identity Crisis

This morning, while listening to a short speech by Italy’s new PM, I realized satan’s recent strategy and all the current madness going on around us can be broken down into one very simple explanation: identity crisis.

What we are witnessing is a full-blown attack on our identities. It is now normalized to question our gender, our ethnicity, our sexual orientation. It’s gotten so bad that children are no longer seeing themselves as human but are now referring to themselves as “furries”, so even our species is in question. We belittle who we are, who were made to be, and accept a new identity based of what those in positions of power tell us to become.

What is now so evident is that this push to question who and what we are is 100% from the enemy.

“For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”
Psalm 139:13-14 (NIV)

When God formed us, created us, He gave us uniqueness, He presented us with an individual identity that nobody else has or will ever have. God does not make mistakes, so when He created us to be male, female, heterosexual, black, white, Asian, Latino, He did not make an error.

God has a plan for each us, a plan, “to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11). God does not inflict us, punish us, with thoughts of confusion and never desires for us to question our uniqueness or our divine identity.

But, what we are seeing today, is the devil creep in and tell us a mistake was made. We were born in the wrong body, are attracted to things God never intended us to be attracted to, question who we are, what we are, where we are going in life, and find fault in everything that we once found solace in.

The devil believes if he can make us question our identity, he can make us question anything and everything. Unfortunately, he is right.

From the beginning of time, God gave humanity an identity. God granted us the ability to be like Him, in appearance, character and authority:

“So that they may rule over…all the creatures that move along the ground.
So God created mankind in his own image
in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.”
Genesis 1:26-27 (NIV)

God did not create us to be confused. He did not desire for us to question our gender, sexuality, species, purpose. God created us in His image, with His certainty. He created us to be His children, to think like He does, act like He does, live like He does. Unfortunately, today, confusion and manipulation have captivated people to such an extent that everything and anything is up for debate.

The only way we can escape the madness is to find ourselves in Jesus, the one and only truth. When we find our identity in Him everything else begins to make sense. Jesus brings peace, clarity, joy, understanding, and total and complete identity into our life. When we are found in the Lord, nothing can penetrate our assurance of who we are or or take us down a road of pain and frustration.

When we look to Jesus, we can overcome any type of identity crisis. The enemy is always seeking ways to “steal, and to kill, and to destroy”, but Jesus comes to bring clarity, peace and life, “more abundantly” (John 10:10).

Turn to Jesus to find yourself, build yourself up and become assure of who you are. There is security in the Lord, security that nothing and nobody else can bring into your life, or take away.

“For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.”
Psalm 61:3
